This majestic bird is at the center of many East-Asian myths and legends! This antique brooch measures 1 and 3/4 inches long by 1 inch at its widest point, and it is complete with a secure pinback.

George Shiebler was a highly innovative designer from Baltimore who established himself in NYC. He first started manufacturing silver spoons in 1876, eventually moving into full lines of flatware. Over the years he excelled in his renditions of medallions and coins, oxidized silver jewelry and beautiful enamelling work. The company dissolved in 1910 and George W Shiebler went on to work for the Gorham Manufacturing Company, the leading American manufacturer of sterling silver, until his death in the 1920s. They created some of the most exceptional silver works ever made.
