Snakes are an ever popular motif used in the 19th century to represent eternal love of all kinds. Their allure persists to this day– snake jewelry is commonly sought out in our shop. Of all the gorgeous snake pieces we've had, this is among the most stunning, and perhaps the one we are most proud to display. Bright handmade 22k gold is fashioned into a seemingly endless necklace, asserting its eternal symbolism. Centered is an exquisitely carved and detailed snake head holding a heart drop and set with inlaid cabochon garnets of varying shades of red and purple. The heart is a memorial piece– it features a glass covered space on the back for a photo or lock of hair from the beloved to be remembered. The snake head is cleverly wrapped by the end of its tail, which appears as though extending from the necklace chain. This is where the clasp is hidden and clicks the chain into the side of the snake head. Gorgeous hand-carved scrolling details cover the centerpiece of the necklace, front and back. These fine handmade details make this a truly stand-out piece of snake jewelry from the Victorian era. The chain measures 15 inches long and the drop is about 1 1/2 inches. The glass memorial piece is about 3/8 inch in diameter.
