Black Enamel Bangle c1870

Black Enamel Bangle c1870

Ahead of its time, this Victorian bracelet is simple, sleek, and ever-chic. In the latter half of the 19th century, black jewelry became popular even beyond mourning for which it often symbolized. When Queen Victoria lost her husband, Prince Albert, in 1861, she went into deep mourning and wore black for the rest of her life. As the beloved queen does, so do her people, and black became the most popular color to accent or feature in jewelry throughout the time period. Though simple and sleek is not what the Victorians were known for, this bracelet maintains an understated sensibility while having lovely details around the hinge and clasp. It is 6 1/2 inches around, fit for a smaller to average sized wrist. It is 1/4 inch wide and 1/8 inch thick.
