Enamel Snake Brooch c1930

Enamel Snake Brooch c1930

Perhaps the most popular motif in vintage and antique jewelry is the alluring snake. We seek out the heavily symbolic serpent for its beauty and significance. Their endless, circular nature, alongside periodic skin shedding make powerful symbols of eternity and transformative renewal. These metaphors imbue serpent jewels with a sense that regeneration is eternally possible, empowering wearers for generations. This 1930s iteration is handmade in 14k yellow gold with striking, colorful enamel details on its formidable head. Crowned with a Ceylon sapphire, this regal serpent intimidates with ruby eyes. This fine brooch is quite rare, and appears true to the Victorian era yet has Palestinian hallmarks that date it to after 1923, placing it in the 1930s Victorian Revival. It measures about 2 1/2 inches long and wide with the tassle included, 1 1/2 inches wide without. The pin is secured with a tube-style safety catch.
