Plique-à-jour Art Nouveau Pendant c1900
Plique-à-jour translates to “open to light” in French, referring to the stained-glass like quality of its construction. The subtle translucence lends an auric allure as it appears opaque at first glance, though hold it to the light and its magic is fully apparent! This rare sterling silver piece is made with blue plique-à-jour enameling that shimmers like water reflecting the bright sky. It was fashioned around 1900 by Friedrich Levinger with a mabé pearl, a hanging dogtooth pearl, and glittering paste stones that shimmer like rose-cut diamonds. The chain hangs as a 22 inch chain, and the pendant measures about 1 1/2 inches by 2 inches.
