1930s-50s Lapis Lazuli Beaded Necklace

1930s-50s Lapis Lazuli Beaded Necklace

It is no wonder why lapis lazuli was the most expensive pigment used in masterpiece paintings in the Renaissance--it is simply the perfect blue! These beads are no exception, with their beautiful matrixing of metallic white calcite and brassy pyrite, and its dynamic variation of lighter and darker shades of royal blue. The necklace was made sometime in the 1930s to 50s. The 14k yellow gold clasp matches the beads perfectly with its bezel-set lapis cabochon. It measures 16.5 inches long. The beads graduate in a range from 6 1/2 to 15 1/2 millimeters.
