Belle Époque Knuckle-Duster Dinner Ring c1890

Belle Époque Knuckle-Duster Dinner Ring c1890

La Belle Époque, or the beautiful era (1871-1914), produced jewelry that was truly deserving of the namesake– and this is among the finest examples! ‘Whiplash’ curves and naturalistic shapes characterize this stunning statement ring, dating it to around 1890 in the midst of the Art Nouveau aesthetic movement. The diamond-studded shapes are beautifully complimented with open cut-outs that give the ring a light, airy quality. Despite its delicate, lacy design, it remains bold in its size, reaching below the base of the finger and elegantly climbing to the knuckle. We affectionately call this kind of ring a ‘knuckle-duster’ and its shape is similar to ‘dinner rings’ that were popular in the 1920s. It is handmade in 14k gold with a platinum top and features over one carat of old mine cut diamonds that are F-G near colorless grade and VS-SI clarity grade. The ring’s top sits flush on the finger and measures about 1 1/2 inches long and 5/8 inch wide. It is currently a size 5 1/2 and may be easily resized up or down upon request.
