Deco .78 Carat Diamond Ring c1933

Deco .78 Carat Diamond Ring c1933

This striking beauty is more than meets the eye, it is a relic of an important moment in jewelry history! The stunning .78 carat diamond is original to the ring and has a very unique cut, subtly different than the transitional cut diamonds that came before it and the true modern brilliant cuts that came after– it straddles this threshold. When the modern brilliant cut was introduced in 1919, a period of transition began between the old European and mine cuts, to the modern brilliants, which were defined as having the ultimate light refraction through its physical proportions. These stones, cut throughout the 1920s are known today as transitional cuts, which have the same number of facets as modern brilliants, though differing, often quite artistic proportions. As the years went by, diamond cutters were able to move closer and closer to the modern brilliant cut we have today through enhanced technology and experience. While antique cuts are each a little bit different, with their own unique sparkle, modern brilliants all tend to look about the same. This diamond, more modern brilliant than transitional, still holds that antique charm while glittering with maximum brilliance. It is in the near colorless H-I grade range and VS2 clarity grade. Set in handmade platinum, an engraving on the inner shank tells us it is dates to '4/17/1933'. Two stacked single cut diamonds, a vertical baguette, and another single cut set into an arrowhead shape, flank either side of the center stone and add a total of about .20 carat in diamond weight to the ring. This ring is currently a size 5 and may be easily resized up or down upon request.
