Georgian Rose Cut Diamond Drop Earrings

Georgian Rose Cut Diamond Drop Earrings

These 'candlelight cut' diamonds exude romance in these stunning Georgian era drop earrings! During this time period of the late 18th and early 19th centuries, it was common practice to set diamonds into silver to show off their colorless qualities, as platinum and white gold were not yet in use. 'Foiling' the backs of the diamonds, or setting them into closed back cups like they are here, added extra brilliance to the diamonds through the mirror-like background. Rose cut diamonds are beloved for their romantic, subtle sparkle. They are magical in low light and the candle-lit evenings of long ago for which they were meant, before electricity. Though the fronts are silver, the baskets and backings are solid 12k rose gold. The post tops are newly added 14k rose gold. The earrings measure 7/8 inch long and 3/8 inch at their widest point. The drops are about 1/4 inch in thickness.
