Dante Alighieri Cameo Ring c1870

Dante Alighieri Cameo Ring c1870

'Il Sommo Poeta', the supreme poet, Dante Alighieri, writer of the most important literary work of the late Middle Ages, is beautifully honored in this truly spectacular cameo ring from around 1870! His famous profile is carved into hardstone– the medium of choice for the highest-end cameos. Over one carat of exceptionally clean rose cut diamonds glitter around the cameo, creating a very appropriate halo around the writer of 'The Divine Comedy'. They are set in silver, its patina contrasting their glow perfectly. The 18k yellow gold setting is equally stunning with its ornate details, highlighted by the aged patina in its carvings. Unfortunately, Dante's characteristic hooked nose has been chipped here, though it does not subtract from the beauty and fine nature of the ring. The top of the ring measures about 1 inch by 3/4 inch. It is currently a size 7 1/2 and may be resized up or down upon request.
