Victorian Taille d'Epargne Buckle
Taille d'epargne, or enamel tracery, is a process favored in the mid 19th century where deep engravings are filled with (usually black) enamel to create artfully bold designs in jewelry and accessories. Made around the 1860s, this intricately adorned buckle is among the finer examples of taille d'epargne enamel we've ever seen, even incorporating white enamel! A captivating Etruscan design utilizes varying hand-chased textures in addition to the high contrast effect of the shadowy 2-tone enamel to give the piece dimension and detail. The result is an absolute work of art!
