9 Karat Extra Long Guard Chain C. 1900s

9 Karat Extra Long Guard Chain C. 1900s

Arguably THE most versatile addition to a jewelry collection — a muff or long guard chain! Both fashionable and practical, these chains were very popular during the 18th & 19th centuries, and they were always long enough to be tucked into a belt. The swiveling dog hook clasp was usually adorned with a pocket watch, a lorgnette, a wax seal stamp, keys or other decorative fobs. It was multi-purpose back then, and today its sixty inches of chain can make for so many different looks!

This luxurious antique guard chain is made up of interlocking belcher (or rolo) links and fashioned in 9 karat gold, guaranteeing that it is as beautiful as it is strong. Crafted circa 1900s, each link is chunky and smooth with a pink-bronze hue, glittering as it catches the light. The chain is accented with textured golden orbs and flat links, and it is hallmarked at the clasp for '9C' (a British stamp for 9K). It is increasingly harder to find an antique guard chain of this length, as they usually get separated or broken down over time. This historied piece can be easily worn as one long chain, or looped twice or even three times around the neck to make a stunning statement necklace. Simply everything you could wish for in an antique chain. It is so elegant and in excellent condition. Make it yours today!
