Imperial Lapis & Pearl Lavaliere c1910

Imperial Lapis & Pearl Lavaliere c1910

An imperial lapis adorns the center of this romantic lavaliere, its renowned blue hue ever more striking in rich yellow gold. Imperial lapis is the highest quality lapis lazuli, whose name originates from the Persian word for the gem, lāžward, which serves as a root word for blue in several languages. In effect, the color blue is in reference to this beloved stone! This fine imperial lapis is set in handmade yellow gold that delicately curves around its oval milgrain bezel and drops down in two strands of different lengths. These strands are articulated and studded with bezel-set pearls in each of its fine joints. A larger Akoya cultured pearl anchors each drop, set like a flower bud that dangles from gold caps. The pearls ethereal, lustrous glow beautifully complements the royal blue gem and completes this darling necklace with a soft, dreamy elegance. Made around 1910 in St. Petersburg, Russia, this charming antique was handmade to treasure forever to come!
