Around 1900, when this pin was fashioned, nouveau artists drew much of their inspiration from naturalistic Japanese silk screens– indeed, there was a great admiration for the art of the East! This pin showcases another specialty of the movement– fine enamel work. The enamel work of the time is unmatched, and here we have a great example of how well they were able to craft colors with fine shading and dimension. Its beauty truly makes this dime-sized artwork stand out! It is about 1/2 inch in diameter on a 2 1/2 inch long stick.
