Shakudo Menuki Warrior Brooch
This brooch was handmade circa 19th Century in 925 Sterling silver and 18 karat yellow gold in the Shakudo style of oxidized silver work. The brooch depicts a Menuki sword-wielding Samurai, accompanied by two dragons or 'foo dogs' and gorgeous imagery imbued with history.
Shakudo pieces originated in the Samurai period in Japan and were created by esteemed silversmith artisans who made ornaments to adorn swords and armor. When the Samurai period ended in the late 19th century, these artisans moved to converting the pieces to wearable art, resulting in this rare brooch where the attention to detail that the Japanese artists and craftsmen are famous for is in full display. Antique lovers all around will surely cherish this stunning piece of history!
