Georg Jensen Sterling Earring c1944-45
Georg Jensen of Copenhagen, Denmark was heralded as the greatest silversmith in three centuries! His designs are largely inspired by nature and defined the Arts and Crafts movement of the turn of the 20th century. His original designs continued to be reproduced by his company throughout his lifetime and beyond, affirming their universal appeal and timeless beauty. Though the venerable studio is still highly regarded for their impeccable craftsmanship, his original designs are among the most collectable and highly valued. This pair of gorgeous Art Nouveau design earrings are design #93, made for a matching pin, #20, that was among his first creations. They were made between 1944 and 1945 and were originally screw-on. At some point in their 75 year lifespan, someone who loved them removed the screw-on backs, soldered on a bale, and hung them from sterling clip-on backs. As the tops are not original, we are happy to convert them to posts for pierced ears free of charge. They measure 1 3/8 inches long and the drop is 3/4 inch wide.
