Georgian Gold and Hematite Button Earrings
These elaborately adorned buttons from the Georgian era are abstract as first glance, its symmetrical pattern of intertwined curves with leafy ends are typical of the period. Looking closely, faces appear! Profiles of four long-bearded men border each earring, can you see them smiling?! They are hand-carved into thick 18k gold applied to hematite disks. Originally buttons that were likely the whimsy of a nobleman, they were converted to clip-on earrings in the 1930s, easily worn on pierced and non-pierced ears alike. We are happy to add posts for added security on pierced ears, upon request. Each earring measures about 1 inch in diameter.
