Deer Hunt Locket Brooch c1850
A glittering frame of rose-cut diamonds surrounds a miniature hand-painted masterpiece in this stunning deer hunt locket brooch from around 1850. The intricate portrait portrays a hunt on horseback with hounds chasing deer over a river in a breathtaking landscape. Around one carat in total weight of fine rose-cut diamonds are set through the frame, sparking brightly against silver with a heavy patina to perfectly contrast. The silver sits atop 14k yellow gold, which makes up the majority of the piece. Behind the pinback is an original locket with a blue satin background, ready for a photo and perhaps intended for a lock of hair.
This brooch is in excellent condition and all original. It measures about 1 3/8 inches long and 1 inch to 1 3/8 inches wide with the embellishments above and below the portrait.
