Art Nouveau Diamond Convertible Brooch to Pendant
This Art Nouveau masterpiece balances high elegance and airy playfulness with its sweeping natural forms strewn with the finest diamonds. It is clear that this piece was made by an extremely high-end jeweler or guild store as evidenced by its its high-grade diamonds, meticulous design, and thoughtful construction. Handmade in the 1880s, the top is platinum while the back and pin are 18k yellow gold. The central old mine cut diamond is of remarkable quality, especially for the time period. It weighs about .30 carat and boasts at least a colorless E-F color grade, a VVS1 clarity grade, and may even be an IF, or internally flawless. It is rare how well matched the rose cut diamonds are, each also VVS clarity and colorless! They add about another carat in diamond weight to the bauble. Extraordinary still is not just its elements and aesthetic, but its construction– the pinback and catch hook are both easily removed by unscrewing, making way to be worn as a pendant without a pinback showing through. Two hook-style bales are hidden behind the top edge of the piece, easily accommodating a chain. It measures about 1 7/8 inch tall and 2 1/2 inches wide.
