Egyptian 18k Scarab Necklace, 1960s
Most of us see scarabs today and think of ancient Egypt. Ancient Egyptians saw scarabs and thought of resurrection, transformation, and immortality. How fitting it is that ancient Egyptian style is revived over and over again! With every tomb excavation, we see the alluring styles inspire the fashions of the modern era. The scarab is the most prolific ancient Egyptian motif, unceasing in its popularity– it never dies, but is reborn again era after era. We believe this exemplary, rich 18k gold necklace to be a 1950s or 60s iteration, given it's hook and chain style clasp. The hook allows it to be worn in multiple lengths by hooking into any of the rings that connect the long links that make up the chain. The longest it goes is 16 inches, about collar length. Each scarab is a bit over 1/2 inch long.
