Etruscan Revival Cameo Pendant c1870
Ancient civilizations inspired much of the jewelry in the 1860s and 70s when tombs filled with jewelry were excavated throughout Italy, Greece, and Egypt! Styles from the ancient eras were incorporated into Victorian designs and often replicated entirely. This shell cameo pendant is an example of the Etruscan Revival of the period. Both the beautifully hand-carved image and its elaborate 14k gold framing pay homage to the distinctive aesthetics that were found in the newly discovered Etruscan tombs. The cameo is a very fine example of carved shell, its details crisp, and its dimensions dynamic and sculptural. The pendant measures about 2 3/4 inches by 1 1/4 inches. The chain is not included, please ask about our many options!
