The alluring Lapis Lazuli has been highly-prized since ancient times — the mask of Tutankhamun is inlaid with lapis lazuli, and it was also Cleopatra's favorite eye shadow color. The pigment also helped Dutch art Master Vermeer to create his captivating painting Girl with a Pearl, and when Michelangelo demanded to use Lapis for the Sistine chapel, the stone was ground into an iridescent powder for his use. Coined 'ultramarine', this became the most expensive of all the Renaissance colours. Due to its rich, sky-blue appearance, lapis has been long known as the stone of the gods, a gift from heaven. And now they're a gift for you!
This stately pendant was made in 18 karat yellow gold with lapis lazuli and .15 carats total in Full-Cut diamonds adorning the top of the open, geometric frame. The diamonds are graded H-I color and VS-SI clarity, and the large, rectangular slab of lapis lazuli displays that signature royal-blue hue with visible flecks of gold pyrite. It measures 2 inches long by 1 inch wide.
