Moonstone Lavaliere Necklace c1910
Lavalieres are known for their romantic aesthetic, and moonstones add a magical touch to this stunning example! The lavaliere style pendant was made popular and named for the Duchesse de la Vallière, a mistress of Louis XIV of France, and refers to a drop pendant. Today we refer specifically to the filigreed Art Nouveau style drop pendants we see from the late Victorian and early Edwardian periods. Though this one is a larger scale than most, it retains the delicate detailing lavalieres are known for.
This pendant necklace is set in sterling silver with Ceylon moonstones and a fixed 14k white gold chain. It was made between 1910 and 30. The pendant portion measures about 2 inches long and 7/8 inch wide while the chain measures about 15 inches long.
