Pearl Necklace with Dragon Clasp c. 1980s

Pearl Necklace with Dragon Clasp c. 1980s

A vintage pearl strand necklace from the 1980s, displaying three strands of creamy-white, individually-knotted fine Biwa pearls that are exceptionally bright and with a glossy, textured surface. Pearls are a jewelry closet staple and a treasure of the ocean, produced organically by fresh and saltwater mollusks, making them truly one-of-a-kind. Biwa pearls are farmed in the lakes Lake Biwa, near the city of Kyoto on the Honshu island of Japan. The unusual shape and exceptional lustre of these pearls has long been associated with the beauty of the moon and they are symbolic of purity, serenity, and loyalty. Our multi-strand necklace is held together and made more beautiful by its (completely hidden!) push-lock clasp built in 14 karat two-tone gold and adorned with single-cut diamonds and deep-green Colombian emeralds, depicting a striking East-Asian inspired dragon, which was entirely constructed by hand. This is a graduated-length, multi-strand design; the longest strand of this necklace measures 30 inches long, the medium-length strand is 27 inches and the shortest one measures 24 inches. It is securely french knotted and ready to be worn fabulously around town for another lifetime!

A fabulous way to celebrate the year of the dragon 2024!
