1940’s-1950’s Georg Jensen Sterling Necklace
Georg Jensen's jewelry designs are famous for their simple, naturalistic, and abstract forms. This collar necklace, design 61, is exemplary of his signature style and fine silver craftsmanship. Each link features beautiful undulating curves that symmetrically reflect along its horizontal surface, creating a pattern that evokes a double rowed chain. Each link lies flat and connects to the next with subtle double rings in between. Though the design is largely flat, the sculptural links pop with dimension and give the sterling chain a dynamic texture.
The clasp is designed to be hidden, allowing the pattern to continue seamlessly as it drapes elegantly around the neck. This unique necklace was handmade in Copenhagen, Denmark sometime between 1945 and the 1950s. It is perhaps more beautiful today than ever, boasting a gorgeous patina that highlights its magnificent forms!
