Art Nouveau Carnelian Fob c1900

Art Nouveau Carnelian Fob c1900

Entwined curving scrolls of beautifully carved gold define this antique fob as they rise from a flat, earthy red carnelian that makes up its bottom face. Made around 1900, the sculptural gold is exemplary of the Art Nouveau aesthetic with its whiplash curves that evoke the ethereal quality of delicate plumes of smoke. The fob hangs from an oversized ring, where it elegantly tapers to meet it. Its carnelian base is an elongated oval shape, set within a gold bezel. Typically the stone would be carved with a signet to create a wax seal stamp, though this one remains clean and ready to belong to someone new!
