Lorgnette Spectacles c1910

Lorgnette Spectacles c1910

Beautiful and functional! This stunning relic made around 1910 is known as a lorgnette and features a collapsible pair of spectacles that work as a magnifying glass when folded! The gold frames are somewhat minimal in scale though beautifully etched from its hexagonal bail right through to its hidden bridge, covering every surface of the piece with dynamic patterns that gleam as light reflects off the rich, warm yellow gold. With the simple push of a button, where the bale meets the frames, the glasses flip open, transforming the magnifying glass to a pair of spectacles! To collapse, the lenses fold in half and simply click back into the bail. The sizable bail allows the lorgnette to be worn strung on medium to large gage chains or clipped to a watch chain for wear as a pendant. A long chain is preferred so the wearer can easy make use of the handy glasses! This gorgeous lorgnette is quietly glamorous and functionally stylish, making it a perfectly refined addition to any antique jewelry collection!
