Fancy Floral Old Mine Diamond Brooch c1850
Glittering old mine diamonds are set in beautiful buttercup flowers and scrolling leaves in this stunning brooch from the mid 19th century! A rich yellow gold leaf centers the piece as it sweeps across the brooch, grand in its relative size and beautifully engraved, life-like details. Smaller yellow gold leaves alternate with white, diamond-studded leaves, all romantically curving around the flowers. Gorgeous in every way, this piece is exemplary of the finest jewelry of the period– well matched, high-grade diamonds in a breathtakingly beautiful, meticulously handcrafted and detailed setting.
We believe this striking beauty originally had multiple ways to wear, as it also includes two hook style bales that were intended for a chain for wear as a necklace, or perhaps for wear as part of a headpiece, considering the direction of the bales and the brooch's design. We have modeled it as a necklace though not using the bales included, as the piece would sit upside down. We think it would be beautiful as pictured and are happy to remove the pinback and/or add appropriately placed bales for wear this way upon request.
