Modernisme Cameo Pendant by Lluís Masriera c1900

Modernisme Cameo Pendant by Lluís Masriera c1900

Born into one of the most historically renowned jewelry families in Catalonia, Lluis Masriera designed some of the most important pieces in the modernisme and art nouveau movements. Inspired by his schooling with famed enameller Edward Lossier and his introduction to Art Nouveau in the salons of Paris in the 1890s, Masriera brought the style to Barcelona and infused it with Catalonian tradition, helping to define the Modernisme movement. After becoming art director in 1900, he melted down his family's entire stock and designed a Modernisme collection that went on to define his family's legacy. His turn-of-the-century designs are some of the most sought after and continuously produced in the world, highlighting the finest enameling techniques. In this stunning piece, worthy of the foremost auction houses, we see an ivory maiden in profile, wearing a diamond caul and necklace, against a rich 18k yellow gold backdrop, beautifully carved and textured. Blue plique-a-jour enamel fills in the carvings like stained glass while around 120 rose cut diamonds surround in handmade platinum, covering the entire frame with an alluring glitter. A single row of natural seed pearls add a shirt fringe to the pendant, dangling delicately from the bottom of the frame. The pendant drops from a rose cut diamond studded triangle, enhancing the bale and making it easy to pair with even the simplest chains. The pendant measures about 3 3/8 inches long in total and 1 3/8 inches wide. The main panel measures 2 inches long. The chain is not included, though many are available here, and many more in our shop, please inquire!
