Old Euro Diamond Pendant Necklace c1910
A fiery old European cut diamond sparkles at the center of this unusual pendant necklace from around 1910! The diamond is belcher-set, meaning the diamond was flush-set into a solid gold mounting and prongs were hand-carved into the metal to allow light to reach the diamond's sides and bottom, adding brilliance to the stone. The pendant was entirely handmade in 14k blush yellow gold and does not have a typical bale to hang with. Instead, the pendant features two hooks that are part of the design, each extending from either side and curved upwards to receive the chain. The gorgeous wheat chain features two flat oval rings on each end that can slide into each hook, securely hanging the pendant in place. This unique closure style is more secure than most clasps as there are no mechanism that can malfunction. It utilizes gravity and physics to ensure there is no way to come undone without intention, and yet is easy to maneuver! This antique diamond pendant is stunning and distinctive – a glittering, unusual beauty that outshines contemporary styles!
