This is what we call a filigree fairy tale ring, not only because its beauty is that of storybooks, but because to find a perfectly preserved antique filigree ring in yellow gold is usually a thing of fantasy– commonly sought after, yet rarely found. Diamond filigree rings, defined by their lacy, intricate open metalwork, were most prevalent in the 1920s when almost all fine jewelry was fashioned in white metals like platinum and white gold. This ring was likely fashioned right around 1930, just as yellow gold was making a comeback, and filigree was still in fashion. It was a short overlap, and so these rings are a rarity in comparison to their white metal counterparts. The diamond speaks to this short time period as well, as it is a transitional cut, a cut specific to the 1920s before the modern brilliant cut was perfected and preferred.
