Pocket Watch Chain C. 1870s
Even something so classic as a chain was made with so much more attention to detail in the past! This pocket watch chain, handcrafted circa 1870s in beautifully-aged 14 karat yellow gold, features 2 rows of interconnected links resembling mesh, complete with an ornate centerpiece. A bloodstone & rock crystal watch key, a T-bar and a highly-decorative orb dangle from one end, while the other end culminates with the classic antique dog clip. The artful, hand-carved details that highlight soft swirls, flowers and feather-like scrolls motifs are best appreciated on the orb, but they repeat all over this intricate antique chain.
Traditionally, this exquisite chain would have been used to secure a pocket watch to a waistcoat or jacket, where the swiveled end would attach to the watch's bale and the T-bar would attach to a button hole or belt loop. Today, it can be easily fashioned as a necklace once connected to another chain, like we have it on our model shot, or styled as a bracelet too!
