Skeleton Pendant Watch c1930-50
The 20th century was perhaps the most innovative era for timepieces. From the debut of the wristwatch and through its evolution into battery power, the human love for the clock was unceasing. In the time period when this spectacular skeleton ball watch was made, the catchphrase may as well have been "put a clock on it!" Clocks appeared, sometimes hidden, on all kinds of objects like compacts, cigarette cases, luggage, and even embedded into handbags and wallets! This fascination for the clock led to what we call skeleton movements- or mechanical movements that are clearly displayed as this one is, behind glass. This pendant watch is set in a beautifully carved silver bezel with an adorable tulip bale that hangs it on a long silver chain with crystal beads. The watch is made by Gubelin, a highly respected Swiss watchmaker out of Zurich. The chain measures about 34" long. The watch pendant has a 22mm case.
