1.31 Carat Old Mine Diamond Solitaire c1890
Old mine cut diamonds have an alluring beauty that has transcended this past century's obsession with the modern brilliant cut. While the modern brilliant cut is ideal in its proportions and valued for its maximization of light refraction, or brilliance, each one largely appears the same by design. Old mine cuts are like sparkling snowflakes, each one is unique in its faceting and has a character all its own! They were cut in close proximately, or right in the mines themselves. With limited tools and no set standards, each was cut by hand, allowing the cutter the freedom to bring out each stone's unique beauty. This stunning example weighs about 1.31 carats, is a J color, and an SI2 clarity– certified by EGL USA. It is set in a classic, simple solitaire mounting dating back to around 1890. Its elegant handmade palladium basket adds character and makes it distinctly antique, while allowing the diamond the prominence it deserves. The ring is currently a size 8 1/2 and may be resized up or down upon request.
