Georgian Foiled Citrine Ring

Georgian Foiled Citrine Ring

An antique ring with an ancient feel – this Georgian citrine ring embodies an old world charm that can not be replicated today! The golden citrine is oval-cut and foiled, meaning there is a sheet of metal encasing the back of the stone. This was a common practice at the time, as they rightly believed it added brilliance to the stone. Over the centuries, water and other tiny particles get in between the foil and the stone and can distort the foil to a certain extent. This is why the stone appears somewhat clouded and dirty up close. This can not be undone, and so we embrace the flaws of the foil and accept it as another kind of antique beauty! The gem is set in a 14k yellow gold setting, artfully carved and heavily patinated, with gorgeous scroll engravings and almost serpent-like shoulders.  Perhaps the most special part of this ring is its beautiful handmade metal work - truly stunning at every angle! It was made in the late Georgian or early Victorian era, around 1830-50.
