Art Nouveau Locket Pendant c1890
A lady gazes up dreamily as her long flowing locks flow behind her back, a sign of leisurely repose and tenderness in the Victorian era when this gorgeous gold locket was made. Her lovely profile appears centered on the front panel, her image slightly raised in the gold through a repousee process. She is framed by the distinctive flourishes that define the art nouveau aesthetic– lines that delicately curve, taper, and widen in single elegant strokes on either sides of her, filling in the rounded shield shape of the locket.
Made without a hinge, the locket is composed of two panels connected with a rivet where the bale threads through. The front panel slides open to the right, revealing a round frame complete with its original glass. A second frame can be found on the back of the front panel, visible when open and flipped over. The back panel is etched with a signet that reads 'CV' in beautifully scripted letters on its back. Though we leave original monograms intact for those who appreciate them, we offer removal through filling and work with a hand engraver for those who wish to personalize it.
Made in the late 19th century, the locket is as lovely today as it was then, its softness accentuated by the natural seed pearls that adorn the lady's fine tresses. Perhaps she is adoringly dreaming of the ones she loves, those she might keep close to her heart in this very locket!
