Taille d'Épargne and Pearl Slide Chain c1890

Taille d'Épargne and Pearl Slide Chain c1890

In the Victorian era, women wore long chains like this around their neck with a pocket watch attached to the end and tucked in their hip pocket. Sometimes they would use the same chain to hold a lorgnette, a wax seal stamp, keys, or decorative fobs! It was multi-purpose back then, and today its 65+ inches of chain make for so many different looks! You can simply wear it doubled up and show off its gorgeous slide, you can layer it and hang a charm from the hooked end, or even wrap it around to wear as a multi-layered bracelet!

Handmade circa 1890s, this bold but finely-textured chain is constructed in 9 karat gold, and its interlocking links are as beautiful as they are strong. The swivel hook is rendered in 10 karat gold, and the striking shield-shaped slide, which is decorated with Taille d'Épargne black enamel and natural seed pearls, is made in 14 karat gold. This versatile long chain boasts all of the attention to detail and ornamentation that is so characteristic of the Victorian era. It measures approximately 66 inches long in total chain length, and 33 inches while doubled up. The slide measures 1 inch long by 3/4 of an inch wide.

One of the prettiest antique chains to ever come to through our doors!
