Wide Taille D’Epargne Cuff c1870

Wide Taille D’Epargne Cuff c1870

Taille d'epargne, or black enamel tracery, is a process favored in the mid 19th Century where line engravings are filled with black enamel to create artfully bold designs in jewelry and accessories like bangles, chatelaines, and watch-cases! Oval in shape and fancifully decorated with this laborious technique all around, this wide cuff is among the finest examples of taille d'epargne enamel we've seen! Captivating scrollwork, foliage and florals adorn the bracelet atop an intricate hand-applied texture, creating a high contrast effect and leading the eyes to an oval-shaped disk at the center of the bursting blooms. Finished with a delineated zig-zagging texture at its top and bottom, the result is an absolute work of art, rich with dynamic dimension and detail. It radiates a regal splendor that only antique jewelry can provide!
