Among the finest examples of Essex crystal we've come across, this incredible portrait was carved and painted with great care and remarkable skill. This reverse carved intaglio began as a solid quartz rock crystal cut into a round cabochon. It was then carved out from the back and hand painted with the finest brushes, creating a three dimensional portrait that floats within the clear crystal. Varying shades of cream and tan throughout each of the pup's tuft of fur bring him to life with impressive depth and detail. An additional piece of crystal seals the back, ensuring the painting is perfectly preserved as a blush gold rope bezel perfectly frames the portrait, completing this rare treasure.
