c1870 Taille d'Epergne and Pearl Belcher Ring
A ring of relative rarities! Pearls have been cultivated for the last century, but this lovely little pearl was found in nature, which is increasingly rare. Around 1870, when this ring was handmade in 18k gold, taille d'pargne enameling was a popular technique. It is more uncommon in rings because enameling can be delicate, as you can see here: some of it has worn away. The setting, particularly the way the prongs clutch the pearl, is called a belcher style, after its original designer, Thomas Belcher. The ring has an inscription on the inside, "M.E. Center", which we can only guess is the original owner. It is currently a size 7 and may be resized up or down easily upon request.
