A rare specimen! This gorgeous butterfly's wings are lined with an uncommon gem– demantoid garnets! The brilliant green hue is a unique shade for garnets and their famous horsetail inclusions set them apart. Rarer still is the mechanism of this pin, which has a patent date of 1886. It's allows the wings to open and close just like a butterfly would, giving it a more realistic look when pinned on a knit or in the hair! The 14k gold is beautifully carved and set with ruby eyes, perfectly complimenting the green demantoids in this whimsical little pin! The pin measures about 3/4 inch by 1 1/4 inches.
