Edwardian Négligée Necklace c1900

Edwardian Négligée Necklace c1900

The négligée necklace of the Edwardian era is a rare beauty and truly a privilege to offer in our collection! The style, popular around the turn of the century, is defined by two pendant drops characteristically hung asymmetrically at different lengths. This stunning example, handmade in platinum, showcases the style's elegant romance with over 1.20 carats of glittering antique diamonds. An eye-like shape centers the necklace, holding a bezel-set .10 carat old mine cut diamond as an iris. A rose-cut diamond is set on either end of the eye where the drops begin, first dropping into rose-cut diamonds at equal lengths before each dropping into the two most precious stones, dynamically glittering asymmetrically. These two main diamonds are each old mine cut, the larger weighing about .55 carat, H-I near colorless grade, VS2 clarity grade, and the smaller weighing about .47 carat, I-J color grade, SI2 clarity grade. As was common practice around 1900 when this piece was made, the top is handmade platinum while the back of the piece is 14k yellow gold. The necklace measures 17 1/2 inches long while the pendant drops 1 3/8 inch at its longest and the 'eye' measures 5/8 inch across. The necklace may be shortened upon request.
