Georgian Natural Pearl Cannetille Earrings

Georgian Natural Pearl Cannetille Earrings

Georgian gorgeous! Rare natural pearls and bright yellow cannetille gold work come together to create these stunning dangle earrings. Cannetille is a process of using thin gold wire to create designs and shapes similar to filigree work. It was a creative way to make stunning pieces of jewelry with limited amounts of gold– as in the 1820s, when this process was most popular, there was a gold shortage. The process creates a remarkably unique texture that contrasts beautifully with the smooth, round pearls. The pearls are natural– there was no such thing as a cultured pearl back then. They were so prized that only nobility could afford them. The dangle earrings have a truly lovely form that creates an attractive, and distinctly antique silhouette. The gold is 10k and the ear wires were replaced sometime in the 20th century. The earrings measure about 1 5/8 inches long from the top of the ear wire and a little less than 1/2 inch at their widest.
