Guard Chain With Pearl Slider c1900

Guard Chain With Pearl Slider c1900

During the Victorian era, women wore long chains like this (called 'guard chains') around their neck with a pocket watch attached to the end and tucked in their hip pocket. Oftentimes they would use the same chain to hold a lorgnette, a wax seal stamp, keys, a spy glass, or decorative fobs! It was multi-purpose back then, and today this 50+ inches of chain creates many different looks! There is so many ways to style this antique beauty — you can wear it like a lariat, layer it and hang charms from the end with the swivel hook, or wrap it around to wear as a collar or even a bracelet!

Handmade around 1900, the curb-link chain is crafted from 10 karat gold, while the slide & swivel hook are rendered in 14 karat gold of the same beautifully-aged hue. The round slider has been re-corked recently and features a natural seed pearl in its center. The chain measures approximately 50 inches long in total chain length, and 25 inches while doubled up. The swivel measures about 1 inch long.

One of the prettiest slider chains to ever come to through our doors!
