Late-Georgian Enameled Amethyst Pendant
An antique pendant with an ancient feel, embodying an old world charm that can not be replicated today!
This stunning Georgian-era pendant showcases a beautifully-rich purple Amethyst, rose cut diamonds, 2 lustrous natural pearls and swirls of hand-painted enamel. Dating back to around 1840s and handcrafted in 18 karat yellow gold, it is among our most antique pieces. The gold has a beautiful patina, showing off its antiquity, while remaining warm and bright. There is 1 carat total in early Rose-cut diamonds and they are foiled, meaning there is a sheet of metal encasing the back of the stone. This was a common practice at the time, as they rightly believed it added brilliance to their hand-cut diamonds. Over the centuries, moisture can get trapped in between the foil and the stone, causing it to change its color. This is why the stone appears somewhat cloudy. This cannot be undone, and so we embrace the flaws of its ancient construction and accept the sparkle with their antique beauty! Perhaps the most special part of this pendant is the colorful enamel, applied with so much care all over it to add pops of color, and enhancing the creatures and profiles that grace the shoulders of the pendant. The enamel is worn away in certain places, but by no means does it take away from the beauty of this historied piece.
It is a truly remarkable, holbeinesque pendant, full of detail, dimension, texture, and color. It is bound to grace the collection of a special antique collector. Priced as-is. It is about 200 years old and a rare find!
