Midcentury Margot de Taxco Sterling Collar Necklace
Perhaps it is the nature of the independent woman who created this piece that gives it its wings! Margot was an important figure in the Mexican Silver Renaissance of the 20th century. She was the principle designer for Los Castillo before divorcing her husband, Anthony Castillo, and beginning her own line, Margot de Taxco, in 1948. We believe this piece to have been created not long after, in the 1950s. Her first design was numbered 5100 while this one is stamped and numbered 5568. Every bit of it is artfully made, with a design that extends all the way to the clasp in the back. It sits beautifully as a collar necklace, and makes an elegant statement with its size and design, while remaining casual and easy to wear in sterling silver. The necklace measure about 16 inches around. The pendant is about 1 1/2 inches at its widest.
