Platinum Garland Band c1930
An outstanding example of why we love handmade platinum! This gorgeous garland band has incredible details that have lasted nearly a century only because it was hand-carved from a solid block of platinum! Platinum is the strongest malleable metal used in jewelry to this day, but only when it is handmade, does it impeccably retain its form. Platinum's nature is to bind to itself– though it is easily scratched, metal is never lost, but simply moved over. This nature means modern casting methods can not retain the details of handmade pieces as tiny air bubbles are embedded in the structure of the piece. Over time the platinum will solidify itself, moving into these tiny spaces and losing tiny details and forms. This floral beauty is so well detailed, there are even tiny flowers carved around the diamond spacers! About .20 carat in total weight of single cut diamonds subtly sparkle throughout the band as the centers of flowers and glittering on the ribbon-like carvings that appear to bind the bouquets. This heavy platinum band was made sometime between the 1920s and 30s and is currently a size 5 1/2. We do not recommend resizing, though we can make is slightly smaller or larger by removing or adding metal to the inside.
