Cannetille is a process of using thin gold wire to create designs and shapes similar to filigree work, though often more three dimensional and varied. It was a creative way to make bold, rich looking pieces of jewelry with limited amounts of gold in the late Georgian and early Victorian eras. The process often creates unique, intricate textures or in this case, a simple mesh! Handcrafted in the 1850s with bright 18k yellow gold, this sweet pin utilizes cannetille mesh to expand the gold's rich beauty while maintaining an airy feel. Small, natural seed pearls are wired throughout, adding a soft touch to the tulip floral design. The piece is in excellent condition, though it appears as though a strand of pearl detail is missing, as pictured (this is not noticeable to the untrained eye). The pin measures 1 5/8 inches by 1 1/8 inches.
