Taille d'Épargne Elgin Pocket Watch, 1881
Beautiful inside and out! This stunning antique pocket watch is extraordinary in its impeccable condition! Most watches of this age have crazing on the face, inscriptions, dents, and chips in the enamel, but this one, at nearly 140 years old, looks to be in mint condition! Even the signet on the cover has been left unengraved and ready to be personalized after all this time! Striking black enamel work, known as taille d'épargne, characterizes the gorgeous 14k yellow gold watch case with wreath-like accents. The lever-set (or pin-set) movement is in good working condition, made by Elgin National Watch Company, respected American watchmakers of the period and beyond. The inner mechanism is artfully designed and as delightful as the outer case! The case measures about 1 5/8 inches across, and about 1/4 inch thick. The bale is about inch 3/4 wide and 3/4 inch tall. The watch chain is not included but is available here.
