Victorian Locket with Dove and Turquoise Forget-me-nots c1870
Jewelry is, more often than not, given and received with intention and sentiment, marking special connections, milestones, memories, and commitments. Lockets are most exemplary, designed to keep photos, locks of hair, or even small momentos close at hand!
In this rich gold Victorian locket from the 1870s, forget-me-not flowers are prominently depicted with bright blue turquoise petals, imbuing the locket with their sweet symbolism of romantic remembrance! A beautifully detailed, three dimensional dove carries the sprig of flowers as it flies across the top of the locket, nestled in an oval frame within a larger frame. An arrow and swirling motifs fill the bottom of the larger frame, perfectly balancing the dove and completing the locket's front with a fine flourish. The locket pendant's decorative bale repeats the arrow motif, this time pointed up, in the opposite direction. The back of the locket features a stunning signet of three letters, 'L' 'I' and 'M', intertwined as one, and can be kept or erased through filling, with an option to engrave something new. Inside, the locket is empty and ready for personal photos or keepsakes! An ideal piece for those who wish to keep the memory of a loved one close to their heart!
